hello october! (baby’s 10 month update and life update)

oh my goodness hello people! it’s october 1st. I LOVE the beginning of the month. always feels like a fresh start and a new beginning but i love September and i’m sad to see it go. October is pretty awesome though – so I guess we can move forward.

Fun fact about our September. We made it a goal to not eat out at all for the month and we DID IT! like not one meal wasn’t prepared in our kitchen by our hands. It was soooo hard at first because we were literally being so lazy once we moved and would eat out for every dinner. It was stressful on our budget, our bodies and our marriage. the pressure of picking a place, driving there, making sure we could give Stone something to eat, and then make it back in time for bedtime was just hard. So i’m so glad we accomplished that. Disclaimer: we spent about $900 eating out in August. Can you even believe it? Granted, we didn’t really buy groceries so I guess there’s that. But yeah, not something we wanted to get used to. So instead, we made a grocery budget of $200/week for September. We buy so much vegan specialty food and organic everything that it was hard to stay in the budget. We went over about $180 for the month. I think we will do better this month though. We are weaning ourselves off the vegan specialty food — and we’ll continue buying more and more local and organic food. We went to the farmer’s market every saturday morning to start out getting all the local and in-season fruits and veggies we could get our hands on and then we would go to the grocery store. Giant is our favorite, but we just recently started going to Aldi to save money. And boy do we save money! We still have to supplement at Giant for some things, but I’m really excited about getting us to our goal of $200/week, and really focusing on eating all our meals at home. It’s just been so much healthier for us. And another fun fact – i lost 9 pounds doing it haha. It pays all around.

Stone is 10 months now. He’s dancing, climbing on everything, he’s showing his passionate side more and more (i.e. gets frustrated very easy) and he’s got 7 teeth! He’s still loving sweet potato as his main dinner food and we really need to branch out and try more foods. I can’t imagine when we stop breastfeeding and he’ll actually eat 3 meals a day with snacks! it’s so messy and so time-consuming! haha but i guess the same argument can be said about BF. Although it’s not messing, it’s def time consuming. But I love it and don’t plan to stop anytime soon!

It’s just been amazing being a mom. I think about it every second of the day and I love it so much. I’m made for this and being able to raise him all day is incredible. Living smaller to be able to do this has been the best decision of my life. Grant works so hard for us. Three jobs ain’t easy but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Soon he’ll be down to 2 jobs and life will look different. He takes every second he’s available to be with Stone and pours into him like no other. I’ve been watching some documentaries during nap about some very incredible, successful men. Life-changing men, who have changed American history (MLK, Robin Williams and Quincy Jones to name the specific men!) and behind all their success were their wives and children at home. It makes me so thankful for Grant and how all he wants is to be home with us. I know it can’t always be that way. Grant doesn’t have a burning passion or desire to make music or act or change civil rights. It’s just crazy – I never really thought about it until I became a mom. But every time someone is on tour or on a trip or whatever, they are away from their life at home. How hard that must be. I commend people who can juggle that life, although unfortunately I’ve seen how it can affect the family and children 😦 and that is devastating… just some random thoughts.

Stone is weighing in at about 22 lbs and we finally found our measuring tape and he’s 27 inches. We are getting him used to wearing shoes haha the child has been barefoot since birth. He’s not the biggest fan but oh well.

We have an amazing daily rhythm that I would love to share if anyone is interested. I think it’s really working because i’m less stressed, he’s sleeping great and knows what to expect and we get along great. He’s an amazing best friend. Maybe I’ll vlog a day in the life soon.

That’s all for now! Enjoy the most precious pictures of our baby boy. xox
